Chives

Once you plant them, you never have to plant them again. This tasty perennial onion comes back every year and is nearly impossible to kill. But no worries, it doesn’t spread. It just stays neatly in its clump and comes back year after year. A favourite of the Green Thumb Kids as it is the first edible green that sprouts in our garden and all the fresh sprouts are eaten off it as soon as they grow.  Even this kind of mowing doesn’t hurt this hardy plant though, and it comes back to flourish right through to frost.  We dry them for winter use, but they are just as handy if you choose to chop and freeze them.
